From it’s head below Okement Hill in the heart of the north Moor, the East Okement
river descends under the towering granite of East Mill Tor, Oke Tor and Belstone
Tor till it reaches the steeply descending Halstock Wood whence it tumbles over a
succession of waterfalls, rapids and rock pools.
The wood is a delight of native deciduous woodland so typical of valleys that are
in the shadow of the moor. In this painting I have gone to great lengths to get the
reflection, refraction and distortion of the shallows in the river as well as putting
my heart and soul into the Autumn trees that I love so much.
